Many children at Global Autism Learning School are also receiving speech therapy or occupational therapy elsewhere, or alongside our programme. Here's how these different kinds of support generally fit together.
Different Focus, Shared Goals
Speech therapy typically focuses on communication, and occupational therapy on sensory and motor skills, while our learning programme focuses on individualised education, routine-building and social-skills practice -- together, they can support different parts of a child's development.
Why Coordination Helps
When a child's therapists and learning team are aware of each other's goals, strategies like visual supports or communication approaches can stay consistent across settings, which tends to help a child generalise skills more easily.
Our Approach to Coordination
Dr. Charu Arora notes that our team is happy to stay in touch with a child's external therapists, with parental consent, so that learning goals and therapy goals don't work against each other.
